God Is Not Listening

“Allah, plan for the things that you think are for my own good wherever and whenever they exist and make me pleased with them”. This is a common Muslim prayer.

I always wondered why people don’t say “God, make the things I want and I plan for come true and for my own good”. they should simply ask God to achieve for them what they want! Some people argue that what you want might not be as good as what God planned for you.
“God has a better plan for you”, it’s commonly said. But couldn’t God make what I want be good for me! Couldn’t God make that at least as the exclusive reward for those who keep praying and completely fulfilling their religions obligations?

Mum prays, fasts, gives alms and practices Islam to the best of her ability. She performed Umrah and prayed there. It’s said a prayer prayed at the Kaaba is answered. She keeps praying but I suspect that God is not listening. She raised us by herself relying on her job without any illegal activities. She neither stole nor committed murder.

However, God rewarded her with a miserable life. She’s always saying that she was plagued by my father and by us. She had a husband who abused her and turned her life into hell. She also got three children of whom she had to take the full care physically and financially on her own.

To add to that, recently her mental health is deteriorating gradually. Is it fair to live a life going from bad to worse? Is God happy seeing her like that?
