Palestine is A Cause Of Humanity

It is a fact that the love and support for Palestine was inculcated into most of us since we were young. On TV, we have been following the conflict and watching videos and photos of the Intifada, martyrs and much more over many years. Moreover, Egypt was involved in more than one war with I*rael, both intentionally and involuntarily. We also studied about it in school. We learned about the crimes that were committed by I*rael against Egyptian civilians as well as against military forces. If I was born in a different time or place, I could have been one of those children who were murdered in the I*raeli bombing of Bahr El Baqar primary school, for instance.

Yes, I feel close to Palestine but I also feel the same towards most of the conflicts and genocides around the world. Almost a year ago, I visited the genocidal museums in Phenom Phen and Kigali and I felt deeply saddened and depressed. I could imagine all the victims seeing their photos hung on the walls, coming into life, telling me their stories. Seeing the skulls and bones of victims was emotionally and mentally draining. Learning about the role of external factors, mainly Western countries, in these conflicts was like adding another piece to the puzzle. I came to the conclusion that we don’t learn the lessons. The same mistakes have been repeated just by different people in different places throughout history. People exchanged their roles. The victims become perpetrators and we keep going around the same circles.

Every time I learn new shocking information about the bloody history of our world, I feel outraged by the double standard of many countries. I do feel closer to those who have their back against the wall. Those who were pigeonholed as terrorists for fighting back. I feel closer to Palestine after hearing the defense I*raeli minister describing Palestinians as “human animals”. I was instantly reminded of what I read previously about the slave trade.

Enslavers described captives and enslaved people as savages and inferior to justify the horrific treatment to them and slavery. Crimes against humanity were committed and justified in the name of law, science and even religion until it became a societal norm. I’m afraid that what’s going on in Gaza will be our new norm.

I feel closer to Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Cuba, Somalia, Congo, Rwanda, Niger, Burkina Faso and many others. I feel closer to those who don’t have the support of the major powerful countries.
I support the right of Ukraine to fight back but I’m not worried about them. They have the support of God, the USA and the European Union. Whom should they fear?
