Lack of Communication or Hearing?
Roshan said that the fish was spicy. I didn't catch the word "fish" but I saw his finger "almost" pointing at the stove so I thought what was on the stove was the spicy fish.
I didn't check what was on the stove. I just had some of the fish that was on the table with a little rice and a few pieces of roti.
I found out the fish was too spicy for me, however, I kept eating it. Why? At the start, I thought maybe it just contained a lot of black pepper and I was overreacting. I don't know why I ate it all! Maybe because I like fish or maybe because my mind was in another world while eating. Only when I was done, I found my nose was running and my stomach started burning.
When I told Roshan about it, he said; "I told you the fish was spicy". It seems I have a serious communication issue. I don't think that my hearing impairment is the main issue because simply I could have asked him for clarification or repetition but I didn't.
In most cases, I find it embarrassing to keep asking people to repeat what they say. I try my utmost to get the general idea of what they say but often, I fail. People usually look at me as if I was stupid.
I'm not stupid. I'm hearing impaired and the way I am managing my disability doesn't work well. I have to find a solution so people don't think that I've given them irrelevant answers or I don't pay attention to what they say.
🇺🇸: Well written. You're absolutely correct. You're not stupid. Stupid people don't try nor do they acknowledge personal areas of improvement. You're doing both, and I wish you all the best in doing so. Pray and keep it up!
