Denial Mindset

There have always been plans and attempts to have all the different groups of Egyptians melted into one Arabic pot, though the majority of us are not Arabs.

One of these groups is the Nubians, who are located in Southern Egypt and Northern Sudan. They have their own language and even their own traditions of marriage and of other social events. Most of the other Egyptians look down on them due to their black skin color. Others call them 'Bawabeen', as Nubians used to work as 'guardians' for buildings in Cairo and Alexandria after they had to migrate leaving their lands and houses behind after the construction of Aswan Dam. Sometimes when Nubians talk to each other in their own language in public places, people go like; 'are they insulting us?'.

Even the government doesn't respond to their requests to have their ancestors' land returned. As well as that, the Nubian language isn't taught in schools or even in universities.
